Established in 1988 by Marquette University, the Les Aspin Center for Government provides students with a unique opportunity to engage directly with the U.S. political system through governmental and non-profit organizations. To support this immersive experience, Marquette University offers housing for participating students during their semester in Washington DC.
The renovation of the O'Brien House transforms the existing building in the Capitol Hill Historic District into apartment-style housing for 24 students, arranged in six fully modern apartments featuring full kitchens, communal living areas, and dedicated study spaces. The project includes a complete interior renovation, the installation of new kitchens and bathrooms, remedial structural repairs, and the full replacement of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety systems. New bay windows were are carefully designed to be consistent with the historic district and give the building a distinctive appearance.
Approvals from the Capitol Hill Historic District, HPRB (Historic Preservation Review Board), and the ANC (Advisory Neighborhood Commission) were required for this project.
